The author’s purpose is to expose Holden’s true feelings about life and this school, he does not enjoy playing by the rules and the other characters see that flaw in him and are trying to help him get through these tough times. This quote is important because Holden’s favorite teacher says this to him and he genuinely cares about him and wants him to know that to get through life you need to play by the rules to be able to succeed. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules.” ![]() Holden asks about the date and Stradlater will not tell him anything and then Holden attacks him and ends up with a bloddied nose. Stradlater gets mad at Holden for doing his homework wrong for him while he was out on his date and Holden tears it up. Once his roommate, Stradlater, leaves he is distraught over the thought of the two of them together. His roommate tells Holden that he is taking a girl named Jane out on a date and Holden reveals that he has strong feelings towards her to the audience. When he goes back to his dorm an annoying classmate who always barges into his room comes in and starts exhibiting disgusting hygienic procedures in the middle of his bedroom, Holden’s roommate enters and scares off the other classmate. His teacher tries to lecture him about his academic failures and Holden is not enjoying it so he leaves. He goes to visit his favorite history teacher who has the flu. He went to a football but he was up on a hill quite far away from it trying to figure out how to say good-bye to Pencey. He went to a preparatory school named Pencey Prep, which he get gets kicked out of because he does not apply himself. ![]() He will not talk about his personal life, the only thing he mentions is his brother who is a Hollywood writer. This book focuses on Holden Caulfield who happens to be in therapy right now. ![]()
